Currently, we are happy to welcome new PhD students in these research areas:

  • Sodium-ion-batteries 
  • Electrocatalysis (Nitrogen reduction, CO2 reduction) 
  • Porous (carbon)materials: CO2 capture, Gas separation, H2 storage  

At any time we are pleased to host students for a bachelor or master thesis (topics). Please do not hesitate to contact us.

If our PhD students need support, we are also looking for motivated and qualified student assistants.

    Hydrogen storage in carbons - new BMBF project "WaNaWa" We will investigate an innovative concept to store hydrogen in wetted carbons at moderate pressures/temperatures. The project which is funded with 2.13 m € combines experts from FSU Jena (von Domaros, Oschatz), Ruhr University Bochum (Borchardt) and Fraunhofer IKTS.

    First publication for Sofiia! Congrats to Sofiia! In her publication, she could reveal the impact of macropores in hard carbons using a sacrificial template to deliberately alter the electrochemical performance in sodium-ion batteries.

    Oschatz group hosts German Zeolite Conference! For the first time in its history, Jena was the heart of the porous material world! The German Zeolite Conference gathered experts from all different aspects of porous materials and brought together reknown scientists from all over the world.

Electrochemical Energy Storage
The development of model materials strives for the exploration of novel electrochemical mechanisms for energy storage in Sodium-ion batteries or supercapacitors. Our ultimate goal is to find mechanisms which exceed the common assumptions of well-known redox processes or standard electrochemical double layers.
