historical collection of geophysical/seismological equipment
The extensive and unique collection of measuring instruments for recording ground motions, which is maintained by the geophysicists of the Moxa Geodynamic Observatory and the Department of Applied Geophysics of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, is attracting worldwide attention.
This collection of the Museum Burg Ranis presents measuring instruments developed and constructed by scientists of the discipline of earthquake research, which became nationally and internationally established from 1900 onwards. Most of the objects shown in the collection were created between 1900 and 1980. The collection of Ranis Castle is supplemented by measuring instruments of the Moxa Geodynamic Observatory, which are kept there after being replaced by newer measuring systems.
